Abstract: Land subsidence is a silent but increasingly important danger threatening Iran and tens of countries all over the world. When groundwater withdrawal exceeds groundwater recharge, the balance in the aquifer turns negative, which leads to devastating damage to buildings, roads, railways channels, farms, etc. The phenomenon, it's mechanism, and updated situation in the world will be discussed.
