The educational activities of this faculty started in 1973 as an independent institution. After the 1980 merger, this institution was redefined as the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of K. N. Toosi University of Technology.

Mechanical engineering is perhaps the broadest of the engineering disciplines which involves a wide range of technical areas. The courses offered in the Faculty provide the students with a broad understanding of fundamental principles of mechanical engineering that serves as a background for many fields of specialization. The undergraduate curriculum is designed to familiarize the students with basic engineering principles within a creative-thinking and problem-solving environment. The graduate curriculum is aimed at providing the students with the required background and research capabilities in order to conduct strong research activities.

The Faculty aims at providing at an environment conductive to research and consider the partnership with industry and government as one of its main goals.

There are currently 44 full-time academic members in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
